Everything you need to know about controls, scoring, power-ups, and levels in SnakeDash.
Navigate to the Play page. The game canvas loads immediately. Press the Space bar on desktop, or tap the canvas on mobile, to start a new game.
The snake moves continuously in the current direction. Use the arrow keys or WASD to change direction. On mobile, swipe in the direction you want to turn. You cannot reverse directly — turning 180 degrees is not allowed.
Red circles are food. Each one you eat adds a segment to your snake and increases your score by 10 points (or 20 with Double Points active). Eating food in quick succession builds a combo multiplier that increases your points per food.
Diamond shapes appear on the grid periodically. Move your snake over them to activate the effect. Each power-up lasts for a set number of moves before wearing off.
The game ends if your snake hits a wall or runs into its own body. Ghost Mode temporarily removes the wall collision, allowing the snake to pass through walls and emerge on the opposite side.
Press Space or tap the canvas to pause the game at any time. Press Space or tap again to resume. Your score and snake position are preserved during a pause.
Power-ups appear as diamond shapes on the grid. Each has a distinct color and effect.
Reduces the snake's movement speed for a short period. Useful when the snake is moving fast at higher levels and you need more time to plan your path.
The snake becomes semi-transparent and can pass through walls, emerging on the opposite side. Self-collision is still active during Ghost Mode.
Every piece of food eaten while this is active gives 20 points instead of 10. Combined with a combo multiplier, this can significantly increase your score in a short time.
Each piece of food eaten gives 10 base points. With Double Points active, this becomes 20 per food.
Eating food within a short time window of the previous food builds a combo. A 2x combo doubles your points per food, a 3x combo triples them, and so on. The combo resets if you wait too long between eating.
Every 50 points, the game advances one level. The snake's speed increases with each level. There is no score bonus for leveling up — the challenge itself increases.
Your highest score is saved in your browser's local storage. It is displayed on the game screen and persists between sessions. Clearing your browser data will reset the high score.
